The USS Inflict is a Troop Transport in the Federation's Starfleet. It was designed for pinpoint delivery of large numbers of heavily overarmed troops during wartime, presumably under fire. The wartime complement of personnel includes the actual ship crew, assigned Starfleet Marines, extra shuttles and pilots, and an Admiral (with staff) to coordinate operations with boarded assets and support vessels in a Task Force. The permanent complement is minimal, with multiple positions filled by singular personnel.

These missions take place mostly in the time following the Cardassian War, when personnel and ship assets are at critically low numbers. The Inflict's peacetime missions include emergency transport, rescue and...whatever Starfleet wants a small crew in a big ship to do.

Most of the crew is human, with notable exceptions.
